Newport News community holds care walk following stabbing attack on two children

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. Newport News Police held a community care walk on Thursday in the neighborhood where two children were stabbed several times days earlier.
Chief Steve Drew said this walk was to make sure this community is OK. He called the incident traumatic and wanted to let the community know Police are there if someone needs to talk.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va - The Newport News Police chief and other members of the department showed up at a Newport News neighborhood in a show of support.
They held a CARE (Community Awareness, Reconnection and Education) Walk after a mother admitted to stabbing her two children Monday, killing her baby boy and leaving her 8-year-old daughter badly injured. Sarah Ganoe was arrested and charged Monday night.
âI want to make sure that this community and the family know that we care about them, that they matter. That individuals who reside here and the kids know that they matter and the family know that sheâs not just a statistic. Winter and Zell are people that we care about, said Chief Steve Drew, the chief of the Newport News Police Department.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police are investigating a homicide that took place Monday evening that left a baby dead and a young child seriously injured.
On May 10 around 9:30 p.m., police responded to the 300 block of Hilltop Drive for reports of a woman in distress.
When police arrived, they found two young children, a 10-month-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, both suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Officers immediately began providing first aid to the children, but officials say the baby, Zell Howard, died at the scene.
