Chief Burns is retiring after 30 years of service in the department. In his most recent position as the chief of operations, Chief Burns oversaw the response of over 10,500 emergency calls a year for fire, rescue, special operations and emergency medical services.Chief Burns has received several awards for his actions at emergency scenes. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) After an honorable 25-year career with the City of Sioux Falls, Police Chief Matt Burns announced his plans to retire on July 23, 2021.
“I have been privileged to serve the Sioux Falls community alongside the incredible men and women of the Sioux Falls Police Department,” Chief Burns said. “I am so proud of them and what we have been able to accomplish together in working to keep our city safe and prosperous. Through times of success and challenge they are the best in the business, and leading them has been a high honor.”
