In an ongoing effort to utilize less lethal methods to end encounters with violent and non-compliant individuals, officers of the Lithopolis Police Department have been issued the BolaWrap Remote Restraint Device.
“Our officers were trained by a company trainer in the deployment and use of the device, which allows the officer to restrain an individual from a safe distance, greatly reducing the risk of injury to the officer and to the individual,” according to Police Chief Jay Barton.
According to the manufacturer, Non-compliant subjects in mental health crisis and drug impaired subjects are often incapable of comprehending commands of officers. BolaWrap enables officers to safely and humanely take subjects into custody without injury and get them the help they need.
9 In April 2020, the Naval Hospital Jacksonville deployed a special diagnostic unit to the guided missile destroyer USS Kidd (DDG-100), then in the throes of a shipboard outbreak. The team comprised of two medical officers and five corpsmen was referred to as the “Rapid Response Team,” and for good reason. Within a mere three hours this team was both conceived, assembled and deployed on a mission to conduct COVID-19 diagnostic testing at sea. To date it is the only deployment of this type of platform in the history of the Navy.
A Call to Assistance:

Matthew Case, alerted him of an outbreak aboard USS Kidd, then conducting counter-narcotic operations with the 4th Fleet.
The firing of two trainers who used racist slurs at the police academy
Most recently, the organization has criticized Barton’s decision to transfer Officer Shanette Hall out of the recruitment division and put her back on patrol. Hall is a board member of the Ethical Society and recently gave interviews to national media outlets talking about the racism Black women face on the force.
Barton said Thursday she was transferred 12 times during her 40-year career with the department and not one of them was by her choosing.
“I can say that under my realm as chief, there have never been any retaliatory transfers, discriminating transfers made here,” she said. “Not everybody is going to be pleased with transfers that are made, but they have to be made based on what s best for the police department and for the efficient and effective operation of this department.”

The department confirmed Sgt. Grant Rummerfield is the subject of an internal investigation and declined to comment further.
It’s never been more obvious what the top story of a year was, as 2020 will always be remembered as the year a global pandemic stopped life as we know it everywhere. But South County also made national news with a very inspiring teacher.
1. Coronavirus. The COVID-19 pandemic was 10 separate stories in and of itself, as every event that would take place in a normal year was canceled or substantially changed. Life was not the same in 2020 as it was in 2019 and hopefully will be by this time next year. Masks became a political issue, public health took center stage, we worked from home, most schools and nearly all government meetings went virtual, small businesses struggled and many residents battled health problems.
