In an ongoing effort to utilize less lethal methods to end encounters with violent and non-compliant individuals, officers of the Lithopolis Police Department have been issued the BolaWrap Remote Restraint Device.
“Our officers were trained by a company trainer in the deployment and use of the device, which allows the officer to restrain an individual from a safe distance, greatly reducing the risk of injury to the officer and to the individual,” according to Police Chief Jay Barton.
According to the manufacturer, "Non-compliant subjects in mental health crisis and drug impaired subjects are often incapable of comprehending commands of officers. BolaWrap enables officers to safely and humanely take subjects into custody without injury and get them the help they need."
