A rare vigil takes place at city hall for Fallen Police officer michael johnson. He kid on tuesday night when he was ambushed by scott dunham who open fire on johnson and other officers approaching his home on center road. Officials credit johnsons partner, officer doug potwora as a hero risking his life standing ground and firing the shot that killed dunham while he continued to fire at officers. We will have a report at the top of the hour. Across the south bay residents are urged to replace the lights on porches with blue bulbs to honor officer johnson. Heather green. We begin this morning with developing news out of richmond and the search for a driver in a deadly hitandrun. One person is dead, two more in Critical Condition following a late Night Police Chase and crash. It was around 9 30 that police tried to pull over a black corvette that was speeding, but the driver floored it. A chase began, ending when the corvette smashed into a car on 24th street and gainer avenue. A passenger in that car was killed. The driver is in Critical Condition. Police say they also found another person on the sidewalk with critical injuries. They arent sure which car he was in. The driver of the corvette ran from the
Getaway car just as it was approaching the dumbarton bridge. Officers from both fremont and newark pursued the suspects across the bridge into menlo park at which point the suspect ditched their car in the parking lot of the Business Park and then started running. Officers chased after them and Fremont Police say that one of the suspects turned around and fired his gun at the officers. Fortunately, none of the officers were hit. But that bullet did strike a newark patrol vehicle. The officers did not return fire. And with the assistance of the Menlo Park Police they were able to take two of the suspects into custody and two guns were also recovered. Police set up a perimeter near facebooks campus, trying to track down that third suspect. And for much of the evening rush hour, the road was blocked off a, creating quite a backup on 101.
