Portland area caddie wins full ride $120K scholarship Southridge High School student Elsie Bradford received the Western Golf Association s Chick Evans scholarship. After working as a caddie, a Beaverton student will receive a full ride scholarship for college. Southridge High School senior Elsie Bradford, 18, was awarded the Western Golf Association s Chick Evans scholarship, a full, four-year housing and tuition scholarship. The scholarship is valued at an estimated $120,000 over four years. The funds come mostly from contributions by 32,500 golfers across the country, who are members of the Evans Scholars Par club program, according to the WGA. Bradford was one of 12 Oregon students to receive the honor.

Led by U of I senior, family makes the cut with Evans Scholars

Jeff Vorva Times correspondent Lockport native Bobby Gikas earned an Evans Scholarship for the class of 2017 and parlayed it into some recent fame at the University of Illinois. He is the Illini’s men’s basketball manager, a usually obscure position.  Because of COVID-19 concerns, the nationally ranked Illini are playing in near empty arenas with no bands or cheerleaders. So, Gikas provides some of the noise. He jumps around yelling encouragement to players and holds up signs. And he is getting noticed. “Having Bobby bring that juice, I think that’s very important,” freshman player Andre Cubelo told the Champaign News-Gazette. “I love Bobby.”
