India Today Impact: UP government orders cleaning of Yamuna river in Vrindavan

Yamuna river (Representative Image) Following complaints raised by Hindu saints over the water quality of Yamuna river during the first ritual bath before the Kumbh at Vrindavan, the Uttar Pradesh government has directed the irrigation department to clean the river. Agra Divisional Commissioner Amit Gupta visited Vrindavan on Wednesday and prepared a report on the condition of the Yamuna water in Vrindavan. The official issued strict instructions to the irrigation department to ensure the water is clean in the Yamuna. Gupta told India Today that he also visited the Mathura police control room and checked the CCTV coverage of the popular places for devotees and saints in Mathura, including the ghats where the ritual baths during the Kumbh will take place. The garbage near the ghats was ordered to be removed immediately. The Mathura district administration has been instructed to ensure that the saints visiting Mathura should get Ganga water for drinking purposes.

Agra: Campus Front of India (CFI) leader Rauf Shareef, an accused of funding and stirring unrest in the wake of the gang-rape and murder of the 19-year-old Hathras girl, was remanded to judicial custody for a day on Sunday. Remanding magistrate Swati Singh, a judicial magistrate in Chhata, remanded Shareef to judicial custody till Monday. He would be produced before additional district and sessions judge (first) Anil Kumar Pandey on Tuesday, said his counsel Madhuban Datt Chaturvedi. Shareef lodged in a Kerala jail was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in December last year in a money laundering case.
