Forest fires, which broke out around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant due to hostilities, cover more than 10,000 hectares, Ukrainian Ombudswoman Lyudmyla Denisova said Sunday.
"The Ukrainian regulator informed the IAEA that staff at (Chernobyl) were no longer carrying out repair and maintenance of safety-related equipment, in part due to their physical and psychological fatigue after working non-stop for nearly three weeks," the IAEA said.
The loss of power at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine does not have any critical impact on safety, the U.N. nuclear watchdog said in a statement on Wednesday.
The United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, on Tuesday said that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is no longer transmitting data. The agency voiced concern for staff working under Russian guard at the plant which is the largest in Europe.
