CHENNAI: The rapid rise in COVID-19 cases across the state has worried government employees who fear they could contract the virus during work. Already, many top government officials have tested positive but they have continued with their work.
With the Chennai Corporation warning of a massive spurt in cases next month, many employees have urged their department heads to conduct RT-PCR tests for them.
It is learnt that some departments like Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority have yielded to the request and tested a total of 164 employees for COVID-19. This also comes after some employees tested positive a few days ago.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu added seven lakh new prepaid and postpaid mobile connections in September and October, pushing the total number of connections in the state to 8 crore. The number of wired lines declined with the state losing more than 18,000 connections in the two months.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data on subscriptions show that Tamil Nadu recorded the third highest growth in wireless subscriber base at 0.7% after Gujarat and Maharashtra in October. There was a net addition of 5.5 lakh wireless connections. In September, there was a growth of 0.2% in wireless subscriber base with a net addition of 1.5 lakh between August and September.
