CHENNAI: A three-member gang of car thieves, who stole five cars worth Rs 69 lakh using duplicate keys, has been arrested by Maraimalai Nagar police on Sunday.
The trio pretended to be drivers who took cars on rent and used their work time to make duplicate keys.
The gang members were identified as Muruganandham, 54 of Trichy, Murugan, 47 and Venugopal Prabhuraj, 46 of Ambathur.
Following complaints from several car owners in the area, police intercepted them during a vehicle check. Muruganandham gave contradictory replies on being asked for the registration certificate of the vehicle. Police then seized his car and checked the documents which turned out to be fake. Interrogations with Murugandham revealed that he was part of a gang.

Allowing the appeal moved by Patanjali against the single judge order, the bench also set aside the 10 lakh fine imposed by the single judge for trademark infringement.
CHENNAI: In a reprieve to Patanjali Ayurved, the Madras high court has set aside an earlier order restraining the firm from using trademark Coronil for its immunity booster product.
A division bench of Justice R Subbiah and Justice C Saravanan passed the order observing that there was no prima facie case of trademark infringement made out against Patanjali Ayurved.
On August 6, a single judge of the court passed an interim order restraining the firm from using the trademark on the plea moved by Arudra Engineering Private Limited, which claimed to be the owner of the trademark.

CHENNAI: A 26-year-old woman and her 50-year-old mother died on Friday after being set on fire alive by a man at Korukkupet in a case of unrequited love. The perpetrator, too, died after he set himself afire, police said.
Satishkumar alias Boobalan, a BTech graduate residing at Ananthanayaki Nagar in Korukkupet, jumped into Rajitha’s house around 3am on Friday by removing the roof tile after he was denied entry into the house by the family late on Thursday.
According to police, Rajitha got a job with the Chennai corporation after her father Venkatesan died in duty four years ago. She was residing with her mother Venkatamma. Satishkumar, who was a contract car driver with the corporation, fell in love with Rajitha.
