CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 30,355 fresh Covid-19 cases and 293 deaths. The total number of cases crossed 14.6 lakh, and the death toll touched 16,471.
After 19,508 discharges, there were 1.7 lakh active cases in the state. Samples were drawn from 1.49 lakh people on Wednesday.
All 37 districts reported more than 100 cases each, and six districts reported more than 1,000 cases each.
Hotspot Chennai reported 7,564 new cases and 89 deaths while Chengalpet reported 2,670 cases and 28 deaths, following by Coimbatore (2,636), Tiruvallur (1,344), Madurai (1,172) and Kanyakumari (1,072). At least 13 other districts reported more than 500 cases each. Ariyalur and Kallakurichi reported 149 and 144 cases respectively.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu recorded 1,08,855 active cases after 15,830 people tested positive on Tuesday. The 77 deaths pushed the cumulative toll to 14,043, while the case tally touched 11.13 lakh.
Over the past 10 days, 1.26 lakh people were added to the state registry. However, a tweak in the state protocol has now allowed health officials to discharge patients even before 10 days of them testing positive. The new protocol now allows them to discharge people after 10 days of showing symptoms, if they have no symptoms for three continuous days. On Tuesday, 14,043 were discharged.
“Last time, we said it has to be 10 days after the date of testing.
