New Delhi, April 20: The Namibian Cheetahs that were released in Madhya Pradesh s Kuno National Park were renamed following a call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people to come up with suggestions.
Modi began to visit the state from September last year when he released Cheetahs in Kuno National Park, his trip to the state will continue till the assembly election.
After becoming extinct in 1952, eight cheetahs had been brought from Africa s Namibia last year. Project Cheetah is part of the government s efforts to revitalize and diversify the country s wildlife and habitat.
After their arrival from South Africa, the 12 cheetahs were served food and water. In the last 46 hours, a team of doctors went to the quarantine enclosures six times for health checkups of the cheetahs, in which they were found to be physically and mentally fit.
As many as 12 cheetahs from South Africa have been released into Madhya Pradesh s Kuno National Park on Saturday. With this, the total number of cheetahs at KNP has reached 20.
