Protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) erupted in Assam, with effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah being burnt, and copies of the law torched. The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) burnt effigies in Lakhimpur, while the Congress protested in Guwahati and other parts of the district. The CPI(M) and students also held demonstrations. Raijor Dal, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Chatra Mukti Parishad, and MLA Akhil Gogoi protested in Sivasagar. The 12-hour Sarbatamak Hartal by the United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA) saw partial response, with some districts observing shop closures.

Shouting slogans against the CAA, the supporters of AASU and 30 non-political indigenous organisations took out torchlight processions across the state in the evening. The AASU, led by its Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjya, organised a march near the high court and Raj Bhavan in Guwahati. AASU leaders went to New Delhi to pursue a petition against the Act in the Supreme Court and returned to take part in the procession in the evening.
