Chatelroll (Frank Affrunti) catapulted to an easy win in the $7,000 Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday (July 3).
Dreams Beachboy went straight to the front and led to the first quarter in :26.3. He used a :27.3 second quarter to lead to the half in :54.1. He continued the blistering pace with a :27.0 third quarter. He was first to three-quarters in 1:21.1.
Chatelroll ($2.60) was last at the half and moved up to fourth at three-quarters. As they made the turn for home, he looked like he was shot out of a cannon. He came zooming by Dreams Beachboy like the gelding was standing still. Chatelroll won in a lifetime best of 1:49.2. Bruces Magic moved up to take second. Peggy J finished third.
Ideal Jimmy ($3.40) cruised to an easy win in the $10,000 Open Pace.
Ideal Jimmy was sent straight for the lead by driver Jody Jamieson, and the pair led through a :27.1 and a :55.3 half. Chatelroll (Frank Affrunti) came first-up to challenge Ideal Jimmy all the way down the backstretch, but Ideal Jimmy shook off the challenge and led to three-quarters in 1:22.1. As they made the turn for home, Ideal Jimmy found another gear and won easily in a lifetime best of 1:49.4. Prairie Panther (Wally Hennessey) came charging late to finish second. Waimac Attack N (Mike Merton) was third.
Ideal Jimmy is an eight-year-old gelding by Western Ideal owned by D.R. Van Witzenburg and trained by Erv Miller. It was his fifth win of the season and 30th of his career.
