Whitehall officers receive award after saving man who jumped from bridge

Three Whitehall police officers are receiving awards after saving the life of a man who jumped off a bridge. On Jan. 12, Whitehall officers Joseph White, Shane Mcgee and Charles Stonerock responded to the 5300 block of E. Main Street on a report of a male who jumped off a bridge over Big Walnut Creek.  Upon arriving, the officers located a 35-year-old male lying partially on the rocky creek bed and partially in the water. The air temperature outside was 25 degrees at the time of the call, according to a Whitehall Division of Police release.  Officers began life-saving measures on the victim, holding his head steady out of the water and staying with him in the icy water for nearly five minutes until EMS could arrive and transport him to the hospital.
