Boarding my first flight on a brand new airline, the Southern California-based AVELO. Freda Moon
I was on the tarmac at Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa about to board my first flight since February 2020. It was an 80-degree day in the valley, and I was sweating in jeans, a jacket and a scarf. Why was I wearing all those layers on such a summery May afternoon?
My ticket, from Santa Rosa to Hollywood Burbank Airport, was on the new ultra-budget airline AVELO, which launched last week as the first major new U.S. airline in 15 years. The carrier, which is based in Burbank (while somewhat inexplicably headquartered in Houston) made a splash not only by launching during a pandemic but for its jaw-droppingly, head-scratchingly low fares.

After a two-day meeting in Cairo, Palestinian factions agreed to an election timetable, and to “respect and accept” the results of the election. Palestinian parliamentary elections are scheduled for May 22, with a presidential vote set to be held on July 31.
In a joint statement issued by Fatah, Hamas and 12 other Palestinian factions, the parties promised to “abide by the timetable” of the elections, allow unrestricted campaigning and establish an “election court” to adjudicate any disputes.
The move by the Palestinians to hold elections this year comes just weeks after US President Joe Biden was sworn in. The Palestinians have pinned their hopes on a more friendly Biden administration after boycotting the Trump administration since December 2017, when Jerusalem was recognized Israel’s capital, with the US embassy moved there nearly six months

Virtues make the best Valentines | Saturday, February 13, 2021
Valentine’s Day is near and the scramble is on for flowers, gifts, cards, and of course, chocolates. Charles Shultz once said, “All you need is love, but a little chocolate now and then never hurts.” Can I get a witness?
This new obituary for Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerski was posted on Feb. 2, 2021
Chasidic rabbi, acclaimed psychiatrist, prolific author, founder of Gateway Rehabilitation Center underlying all his accomplishments was Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerski’s intrinsic belief in the value of humanity.
“He would say, ‘We have to recognize that every individual is a gem,’ that was his favorite word,” remembered Rabbi Moishe Mayir Vogel, executive director of The Aleph Institute in Pittsburgh. “He would never throw anyone away. He would say, ‘We just have to polish them off and wipe away the dust.’”
Twerski died Sunday, Jan. 31, in Israel from COVID-19 at the age of 90.
