McCarthy: Two Pivotal Moments

Boss Mick McCarthy felt Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup third round defeat at Aston Villa turned on two pivotal moments, his former Ireland keeper Shay Given saving from Michael Chopra soon after the Blues had gone in front and ex-Town striker Darren Bent equalising within a minute of the restart.
It was conceding the goal which irked the Blues boss the most: “I think we did have a bit of a chance. I think we gave a good account of ourselves.
“We’ll never know what we would have done in the second half if we’d have kept it to 1-0. We let them off the hook by giving a goal away after 45 seconds.”

Earlier this month Christian Benteke turned 30. The Belgian is firmly approaching the twilight of his career but has had a few seasons to forget in recent years.
The striker thrived in his first term at Crystal Palace, netting 15 league goals, but only managed a further six in the next three campaigns.
There s been constant chatter of a move away from the Eagles, but he s enjoyed a mini revival in recent weeks. Benteke has scored three goals in his last three games - a double against West Brom in a 5-1 win and the opener in the 1-1 draw against West Ham on Wednesday evening.
