Justifying the events of october the 7th. It is a measure of the profound sense of shock and horror and disgust and anger that still reverberate up and down this country that when they heard him making those remarks, they hurt someone who they believed still did not understand exactly what had happened on October Seven, that somehow he was marshalling the history of the conflict to not just was marshalling the history of the conflict to notjust explain but to justify the behaviour of the hamas gunmen who attacked so many innocent civilians on that day. He clearly wants us to know that is not the case, that he doesntjustify any of this, but he remains convinced that it is pointless to try and consider any of this without taking a wider view, because simply things are inexplicable and cannot be addressed.
