El Dorado’s senior class of 2023 didn’t bring home a lot of athletic championships. The Lady Wildcats won their second 5A state track championship and the cheerleaders won the 5A state title for the first time.
Success can be measured in a number of ways.
HOT SPRINGS - El Dorado’s DeAndra Burns Jr., won a pair of events and led the Wildcats to the championship Thursday in the Joe Reese Memorial Track & Field Championships.
A lot of point guards would rather not play for a coach, who used to be a point guard. Former point guards understand how important that role is on a team and have high expectations for that position.
The girls’ basketball senior class at El Dorado qualified for the state tournament for the second straight season under Coach Ashlee Curtis. It was the first time the Lady Wildcats went to back-to-back state tournaments since Stephen Harshaw’s last year and Destinee Rogers’ first season as head coach.
Curtis’ senior class was well represented on the 2022-2023 News-Times Girls Basketball All-Area Team. El Dorado’s Lindsey Lockhart, Lauren Nelson and Charalyn Rester joined Parkers Chapel’s Bella Frisby and Kallie Martin on the first team.
Lindsey Lockhart sparked a 14-0 run in the second half and helped El Dorado pull away from a pesky Hot Springs squad 62-48 in 5A South action Friday at Wildcat Arena.
The Lady Wildcats won their fourth in a row and improved to 15-11, 10-4. The Lady Trojans, coached by Union graduate Josh Smith, slipped to 5-17, 2-10.
