ALBANY - Two Albany churches are getting funds to restore parts of their buildings from the New York Landmarks Conservancy.
The churches are among 17 Sacred Sites Grants totaling $267,000 awarded to historic religious properties statewide by the nonprofit.
Emmanuel Baptist Church was awarded $10,000 to help pay for tower stabilization.
It is one of the few surviving Albany works of the architectural partnership of William L. Woollett and Edward Ogden, the landmarks group said in its announcement. The limestone-clad Gothic Revival church was dedicated in 1871, and in 1883 the tower was completed. A large education wing, of common brick, was added at the rear in 1928.
