2 Albany churches receive Sacred Site Grants for restoration projects News staff FacebookTwitterEmail 2of3 3of3 ALBANY - Two Albany churches are getting funds to restore parts of their buildings from the New York Landmarks Conservancy. The churches are among 17 Sacred Sites Grants totaling $267,000 awarded to historic religious properties statewide by the nonprofit. Emmanuel Baptist Church was awarded $10,000 to help pay for tower stabilization. It is one of the few surviving Albany works of the architectural partnership of William L. Woollett and Edward Ogden, the landmarks group said in its announcement.  The limestone-clad Gothic Revival church was dedicated in 1871, and in 1883 the tower was completed.  A large education wing, of common brick, was added at the rear in 1928.

Ludington was the daughter of Henry Ludington, a New York militia officer and later an aide to Gen. George Washington. According to accounts generally attributed to the Ludington family and first published more than 100 years later, on April 26, 1777, a messenger reached the Ludington house with news of Gov.
