The BJP responded to the Supreme Court s judgment on the Chandigarh mayoral election by stating that it respects the decision. Arun Sood, the former Chandigarh BJP chief, acknowledged the court s ruling while highlighting the significance of numbers in democracy. He noted that with 18 out of 36 councillors now supporting BJP, the party holds a majority.
Hitting back at AAP, BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde said that the councillors joined the BJP on their "own will" and alleged that AAP made false promises to those leaders.
The eight "defaced" ballot papers - from last month's controversial Chandigarh mayoral election - which are at the heart of a bitter fight between the AAP and the BJP must be shown to the Supreme Court Tuesday, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said.
