An adherence to wearing masks in crowded and closed settings, in healthcare facilities, frequent hand-washing and limiting personal contact if suffering from respiratory diseases, and visiting a doctor in case of symptoms are some of the important steps that have been advised.

CHANDIGARH: Punjab is seeing a consistent increase in weekly cases for the seventh straight week in a row, adding over one lakh cases to the tally, the fastest so far. As the state combats the roughest phase since the outbreak of the pandemic, it is witnessing around 3,000 cases and 50 deaths on an average daily.
Both Haryana and Punjab recorded the biggest single-day high of 5,858 and 4,333 new cases on Thursday. With this, Haryana has 30,518 active cases and Punjab 30,033.
The seven-week streak started from February 25 to March 3 when as many as 4,491 fresh cases surfaced. In the subsequent week, the number of cases swelled to 7,730 while in the week of March 11-17, 11,009 cases were reported, 17,227 new cases surfaced in March 18-24, 19,458 during March 25-31, 20,286 in the first week of April and 22,485 in the subsequent seven days.

CHANDIGARH: As many as 49 people died of Covid-19 while 2,705 fresh cases surfaced in Punjab on Saturday.
Of deaths reported in the last 24 hours, seven were in Amritsar, six in Hoshiarpur, five each in Gurdaspur and Ludhiana, four each in Jalandhar and Ropar, three each in Mohali, Sangrur, and Kapurthala, two each in Bathinda, Patiala and Tarn Taran and one each in Fazilka and Pathankot.
Jalandhar recorded 469 cases while 382 people were tested positive in Ludhiana. As many as 360 people were found infected with the virus while reports of 263 people turned out to be positive in Amritsar, 195 in Hoshiarpur, 141 in Patiala, 140 in Gurdaspur, 128 in Kapurthala, 115 in Muktsar, 80 in Ropar, 69 in Sangrur, 57 in Nawanshahr, 53 in Bathinda,47 in Pathankot, 39 each in Faridkot and Fatehgarh Sahib, 33 in Ferozepur, 32 in Barnala, 26 in Mansa, 19 in Moga, and nine
