Owing to happen when this seven day time frame and any challenges we are dealing with, whats going to happen . Thank all of the witnesses for their testimony. Ask the children are going to be unprepared for the legal government they will be pushed through. Many are eligible to stay and with proper counsel would succeed in their claim. And shippedenied home to face the violence they fled quite simply. And we will not be a nation of mercy. And it will be remembered. Let me think the panelists and those of us here, representing the border community, this has been particularly effective in texas to provide some balance to this whole issue. I appreciate that. Making sure due process continues to be the core of what this law is. Thepoint was made about American People not getting it by think the American People are getting it. Its not a simple political tovenience where we expedite provide the political coverage or explore situations for itctoral purpose will stop fundamentally about us as a
Ms. Waters. After 2007, i think that overleveraged issue sort of prove the point. And looking at the headlines the headlines read government keeps pushing mortgage guarantees as risk index rises. Heres another headline. Fhfa orders of gses to start supporting Affordable Housing trust fund. Surprisingly the year is not 2005. Its 2015. And so we find the fha today engaged in this race with fannie and freddie to see who can more swiftly cracked up the private sector, who cant assume more risk on behalf of the american taxpayer. I would just point out this is kind of a frightening race because in my view we have seen it before. The fhfa has joined sort of a moral hazard problem here. And in december you announced the gses should begin to put more money into the coffers of Housing Advocacy groups through the Housing Trust fund established under the housing and economic recovery act. And you made this move despite the fact that fannie and freddie have yet to repay a lot of the money due to t
Water we have in missouri and we need to protect the quality of water have in our state. All across our state drinking and Wastewater Treatment systems, many built decades ago are starting to fall apart. If youve ever had a pipe burst in your basement, or a cracked maintain your subdivision, you know how costly and annoying that can be. Thats what my budget this year includes 70 million, funds already approved by the voters and the legislature, to rebuild these aging Water Systems now and ensure that we leave missouris water better than we found them. This is the year, this year, is our opportunity to update and renovate our state park cabins and lodges with special attention to preserving the Historic Structures bui
Within five years. Its called operational control is the term theyre using for it and it would penalize political appointees if they dont meet those goals. Its not going to go very far. The house will pass it this week. You know the its contingent on both sides. Jay johnson, the head of the Homeland Security department has said its extreme. Unworkable. These are not goals that we can meet, so the democrats hate it. Interestedly, a lot of conservatives dont like it either. Senator Jeff Sessions saying that the mccall bill is terrible and the question mark is for boehner and the republicans is that conservative opposition going to reach a point they cant get 218 votes on the republican side to pass this thing, so immigration has always been a tough issue for republicans and boehner and its going to be a test for this week to see how well they can manage their conference going into this new congress. They have more seats, but do they have more power is the question. And thats going to be
We still have very substantial infrastructure revenue needs that have to be addressed. We have studied every option. Some have advocated raising the state gas tax. Yes, we do have the third lowest gas tax in america. Gas prices are now down to their lowest level since 2009. NonSouth Carolinans who visit our state would pay a portion of the tax and we would boost the are revenue stream thats dedicated to improving our roads and highways. But there are also major problems with it. We have not gotten to where we are as a state with our strengthening and growing economy by raising taxes. Quite the opposite. If all we do is increase taxes whether its the gas tax or some other tax, we will hurt our citizens, we will discourage job creators and we will dampen our economy. As ive said many times, i will veto any straightup increase in the gas tax. Thats just not going to happen while im governor. Its the wrong thing for South Carolina. So heres the deal. Lets do three things at once that will
