<p>First, a preview of Beethoven's penchant for composing dramatic, tempestuous works in C minor, followed by one of Schubert's most popular chamber music pieces.</p>
<p>While some noblemen during Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770-1827) era had large orchestras, most preferred smaller ensembles. One such nobleman was Prince Karl von Lichnowsky, who used a string quartet for his house concerts. It was here that Beethoven's three piano trios, later known as Opus 1, were first performed.</p>
<p>The composition of these trios marked Beethoven's initial use of opus numbers and showcased his complete mastery of the classical style. They were noted for the composer's innovative approach to variation techniques and connections between movements.</p>
<p>The powerful and grand C minor trio, which we will hear in this concert, is considered the finest among the three Opus 1 trios.</p>
<p>This trio
