The East Singhbhum police have started 24-hour surveillance at the state borders of West Bengal and Odisha in preparation for the Lok Sabha polls. The police aim to prevent the transportation of illegal money, liquor, arms, and narcotics into the district.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, rural and suburban police stations in East Singhbhum get new officer in-charges (OCs). Checkpoints in the district will be regulated to prevent illegal activities during the elections.
A member of the Quick Response Team (QRT) was trampled to death by a wild elephant on Wednesday night in East Singhbhum. The deceased, Bablu Soren, was a native of Bankura in West Bengal. He was a part of the 10-member QRT of Bengal hired by the Chakulia forest officials to drive away 23 elephants wandering in the foothills for the past five days.
