GARDINER With graduation approaching, Gardiner Area High School seniors and their families began to speak out recently about a decision reached a year ago that would have ended the practice of recognizing the top 10 students in the graduating class.
The Maine School Administrative District 11 board of directors reversed that policy decision during an emergency meeting Wednesday night.
Gardiner-area school board approves $26.82 million budget for voter consideration
Maine School Administrative District 11 will host a virtual public hearing via Zoom on June 1, and Randolph, Pittston, Gardiner and West Gardiner residents will vote on the proposed spending plan June 8.

GARDINER The Maine School Administrative District 11 school board unanimously approved its $26.82 million school budget for next year.
The proposed spending plan for 2021-2022 includes an increase of $663,000 or 2.53% which was approved last week. The school nutrition budget of $1.09 million and adult education budget of $313,320, were also approved by board members.
A virtual public hearing via Zoom has been set for June 1, in advance of West Gardiner, Gardiner, Pittston and Randolph voting on the budget June 8.
The Maine School Administrative District 11 school board gave Superintendent Pat Hopkins authority to decide when students could return to school, but Elissa Tracey now says she's concerned about the plan for some to return as early as Feb. 1.
