Michigan GOP executive who blamed Trump for election loss resigns leadership post Dave Boucher and Clara Hendrickson, Detroit Free Press
Jason Roe confirmed Wednesday he had stepped down as executive director of the state GOP, but declined to provide a specific reason for the decision.
Roe’s departure comes at a time when Michigan Republican lawmakers and party officials have faced growing pressure from pro-Trump activists to take additional steps to investigate the results of the Nov. 3 presidential election.
Nor are Michigan Republicans alone: State and local officials are increasingly leaving aside community issues to reflect Trump s hold of the national GOP, compounding the party s consolidation behind an uncompromisingly right-wing, grievance-oriented politics.
Debra Ell, a Republican organizer in Michigan, helped lead the push for the resolution. “He said there was no fraud again, that’s something that doesn’t line up with what we think really happened and then he said it’s all Donald Trump’s fault,” she told the Washington Post.
“I believe he was fired not resigning. This is just beginning of the RINO Hunt, Ell said, using an acronym that stands for Republicans In Name Only. He was so arrogant to blame the 2020 election loss on our Republican president not the Democrats and cited there was no fraud. So he’s calling out our president. He basically does not represent us as America First Republicans in Michigan and yes ROE MUST GO!
The news of Roe s fall comes at an awkward time for Faulconer.
Jason Cabel Roe, the onetime political eyes, ears, and, some say, brain of GOP San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer, is out as executive director of Michigan s Republican Party. I resigned my position as executive director and the reasons will remain between me and Chairman Weiser, Roe told the
Detroit Free Press in a July 14 statement referring to Michigan GOP Party Chairman Ron Weiser.
Roe s abrupt exit is attributed to anti-Trump statements the ex-California political guru has made, including telling Politico the election wasn t stolen and that there is no one to blame but Trump for his presidential election defeat.
