Community, families remember Nashville officers who died in the line of duty

The Andrew Jackson Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police hosted its annual memorial service for fallen officers Monday as Metro Nashville police officers and family gathered at First Baptist Church on Seventh Avenue South to pay respect to those who died in the line of duty. The hourlong ceremony, at which Police Chief John Drake and Mayor John Cooper spoke, involved musical tributes to officers who have died as well as a solemn ceremony for loved ones and officers to place flowers under portraits of 46 police officers who have died in the line of duty. The ceremony recognized all officers who have died in service of Nashville since 1875, including Officer John Anderson, the most recent officer who died on duty.

Christmas Day celebrations going ahead at homeless shelter in Edmonton Convention Centre

(Codie McLachlan/CBC) Partners at the Edmonton Convention Centre are celebrating Christmas this year despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The temporary shelter opened in late October. The centre has access to showers, laundry, ceremonial support for Indigenous peoples, regular meals and sleeping spots, among other support services. Although holiday celebrations will look a bit different this year, there will special meals and gifts to mark the occasion.  [We ll have] a Christmas lunch service as well as a traditional turkey meal for the evening and volunteers will be handing out gifts to each participant that is on site and so that ll be a bag of essential items  socks, mittens and additional things they might need, some baked goods donated by local bakeries, said Scarlet Bjornson, marketing and
