LAWTON, OK — A case against a Stephens County man accused of assaulting and spitting on police was dismissed Tuesday after it was determined it would fall under federal jurisdiction.
The Andrew Jackson Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police hosted its annual memorial service for fallen officers Monday as Metro Nashville police officers and family gathered at First Baptist Church on Seventh Avenue South to pay respect to those who died in the line of duty.
The hourlong ceremony, at which Police Chief John Drake and Mayor John Cooper spoke, involved musical tributes to officers who have died as well as a solemn ceremony for loved ones and officers to place flowers under portraits of 46 police officers who have died in the line of duty.
The ceremony recognized all officers who have died in service of Nashville since 1875, including Officer John Anderson, the most recent officer who died on duty.
