Two B.C. RCMP officers have been charged with manslaughter in relation to a man’s death during an arrest in 2017 while three of their fellow Mounties have been charged with attempting to obstruct justice.
Suspecting it was stolen, RCMP activated their emergency lights. In turn, the driver attempted to drive away but hit the police vehicle instead, according to RCMP. Police then surrounded the car and, when the two refused to comply with a command to get out, one of the occupants was tasered, RCMP said. The pair were taken into custody while a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a machete and a disguised conducted energy weapon within reach of the driver, police said. Courtoreille has been charged with eight counts including dangerous driving and fleeing police while Cadieux faces seven counts, including two counts of breaching a release order.
