Kansas Republican charged with battery allegedly kicked high school student in the crotch

  A Kansas state representative charged with battery allegedly kicked a male high school student in the crotch and left him with other injuries while substitute teaching last month. State Rep. Mark Samsel (R) was arrested late last month on three charges of alleged misdemeanor battery after the altercation at Wellsville High School. He has since pleaded not guilty. GOP leaders in the state legislature, which is scheduled to have its last day in session on Wednesday, have expressed concern over the charges against Samsel. ADVERTISEMENT “We are not yet aware of the details, but are in process of gathering as much information as we can,” House Republican leadership said in a joint statement. 

School apologizes for teaching fourth-graders that slaves freely chose to come to America

The worksheet came from an online resource called “Classroom Nook” that is not approved by the school district to be used as part of lessons.  While the incident occurred in January, a parent brought the worksheet to the attention of district officials Tuesday. 

New York State releases COVID-19 guidance for in-person classes

WHECTV Created: April 09, 2021 05:21 PM ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) New York State Friday released its interim COVID-19 guidance for in-person classes for grades pre-k through 12. The state guidance does align with Centers for Disease Control guidance that allows for three feet of social distancing between elementary school students, saying “Responsible Parties may reduce physical distancing requirements to a minimum of three feet between students in classroom settings, subject to adherence to certain mitigation measures herein.” Students will still need to wear a mask at all times. For middle school and high school students, the amount of space required for social distancing will depend on the rate of COVID-19 transmission.
