Minister of Mines Pralhad Joshi said that 5.9 million tonnes of Lithium reserves are found in Reasi of Jammu and Kashmir. He, however, said that decision regarding auctioning of the reserves will be taken up by the J&K Government.
Discovered in India for the first time, 5.9 million tonnes of Lithium reserve is found in the Salal-Haimana area of the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Geological Survey of India has for the first time established Lithium inferred resources (G3) of 5.9 million tonnes in Salal-Haimana area of Reasi District of Jammu & Kashmir (UT) in northern India. If realized with a higher degree of confidence, resources of that level would rank among the world’s.
India's dependence on the import of EV batteries, laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices would be significantly reduced since the discovery of a 5.9 million tonnes lithium reserve in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi District.
