Alan Michael Chorlton, 35, Minot, was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison, with a requirement that he serve two years, and three years of probation for the Class B felony charge of selling 1/8 ounce of methamphetamine to a confidential informant working for the Ward County Narcotics Task Force on Aug. 16, 2017.
North Central District Court Judge Todd Cresap also ordered Chorlton to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation and to pay $1,650 in court costs. Chorlton will receive credit for three days already served in the Ward County Jail.
The charge was filed in January 2018. A jury trial had been scheduled in May 2020, postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and rescheduled for August 2020 and then again to October 2020. Chorlton then decided to change his plea to guilty on Oct. 30, 2020, and remained free pending sentencing.

Eddie Lee Coleman, 36, Minot, was acquitted by a jury on Tuesday of assaulting a police officer on Nov. 23, 2018, but found guilty of Class C felony resisting arrest in connection with the same incident.
North Central District Court Judge Todd Cresap deferred sentencing on the preventing arrest charge for nine months and gave Coleman credit for the two weeks he served in jail. Cresap also ordered Coleman to pay $100 in court costs. The charge will be dismissed if Coleman complies with all terms and conditions set by the court.
Other charges against Coleman had been dismissed earlier.
