It sat here for hours. Sysco admitted to inspectors this is common practice at 14 different sheds hidden from the Health Department for years. We showed the state food safety chief what our cameras captured. It was disappointing to see they were cutting these corners and jeopardizing the safety of the food product and the people that eat it, to be more efficient or to make an extra sale to somebody. Thats not an acceptable way to handle food. Investigators say that sysco faces misdemeanor criminal charges and a 1,000 fine for each violation. That fine is expected to be substantial. This is a problem they take seriously. The food safety chief says 3,000 people die each year of food borne illness. Our calls to sysco were not returned. Yesterday they said that the sysco controlled drop sites must be secure and equipped with refrigerator units. They will review and implement the correct practices. Instead the coronavirus will not stop spreading within our country. The governor of the commonwealth of virginia wants his citizens indoors for the next 70 days. The president , who has backed off his goal of packing churches on easter sunday, has now gone along with his experts. He will continue the current behavioral guidelines for at least another month. Yesterday i announced that we would be extending our social distance guidelines through the end of april. This is based on modeling that shows the peak in fatalities will not arrive for another two weeks. The same modeling also shows that by very vigorously following these guidelines, we could save more than 1 million american lives.
