One person has been critically injured in a car fire in Wellington 23 May 2021
Police received reports of a burning car under the Newlands bridge over-ramp on the Centennial Highway at 4:45 this afternoon.
Ambulance staff treated one person at the scene who has now been taken to hospital.
They are believed to be the only occupant of the vehicle.
One southbound lane is still operating, but significant delays are expected.

Part of Wellington s northern motorway has reopened after a vehicle caught fire following a crash, leaving the driver with life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed a single occupant of the vehicle was airlifted to Middlemore Hospital in critical condition. The patient was previously taken to Wellington Hospital, via Wellington Free Ambulance. The Ngāūranga Gorge from Johnsonville southbound is now open to two lanes and the Johnsonville onramp and Newlands onramp, southbound, has also reopened.

A vehicle caught fire on State Highway 1 in Wellington on Sunday afternoon. However, NZTA is still asking motorists to delay their journeys or use alternative routes due to significant delays on the state highway and nearby roads.
