this is a baton. it s used to escort inmates when we take them outside the building. the inmate that s escorted is handcuffed. and he can t protect himself. if other inmates are going to jump him, we have to protect him. the protective gloves we wear in case we come in contact with blood or other bodily fluids when we re searching a house or if the inmate has it on him when we touch him. we also wear a protective vest where it s stabproof. inmates will use elastic out of their waistbands from their boxers and can use it like a bungee and shoot metal objects out at us if they re able to get ahold of it. administrative segregation is not the only area of folsom where officers are at risk. i ve been in and on probably two dozen cell extractions to where i ve had people jump on my back when we re going in and trying to get them. nothing i haven t healed from.
