New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Friday rejected a plea filed by BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay against the practice of black magic, superstitious beliefs, and deceitful religious conversations.
The apex court of India did not entertain the plea stating that a person above the age of 18 has the liberty to practice the religion of their choice. The plea was in the nature of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which seeks direction to address the centre and the states to control black magic, superstition, and religious conversions.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the plea filed by three practicing lawyers asking for a CBI probe into Mamata Banerjee s leg injury incident. The West Bengal Chief Minister in the March 10 incident was allegedly attacked at her constituency in Nandigram due to which she sustained an injury on her left leg.
The PIL (Public Interest Litigation) was not entertained by the Supreme Court and instead, the petitioners were asked to move to the Calcutta High Court. MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill into law allowing him to run for two more terms starting 2024. The bill was approved by the lower house of Parliament or the State Duma, and the upper house of Parliament, the Federation Council, last month, reports Xinhua news agency.
After Putin signed it on Monday, the law, which was made following constitutional amendments adopted in a nationwide referendum in July 2020, was uploaded to the official Internet-portal of legal information.

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on April 7 rejected the bail plea of former Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) chairman Rakesh Paul.
Notably, the former chairman is the prime accused in the cash-for-job scam which was unearthed in 2016 and Paul was arrested in the month of November for providing jobs in lieu of illegal gratification.
Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan rejected the prayer for bail on the strength of the evidence and the gravity of the case, informed Additional Superintendent of Police Surjeet Singh Panesar, the investigating officer of the first case registered against Paul which also led to the arrest of the former APSC chairman.
