Yanga official Antonio Nugaz has now confirmed the team is ready to do well in all their matches and the main target they have set for the bench is to make sure they lift the league title and also qualify for Caf competitions.
“We have a very good technical bench that revolves around young coaches and if you look at our squad, we also have a squad of young players meaning they will bond well and give us what we want,” Nugaz said as quoted by
“The main thing is in our plan is to get good results. We need to win the Mainland Premier League, we also need to participate in Caf competitions, it is just a matter of time because we have a very good squad and I know they will deliver.”
“Welcome at Timu ya Wanachi Nizar Khalfan, our new assistant head coach,” Yanga announced on Wednesday. “We are expecting so much from you.”
Mwambusi tendered his resignation just after Yanga won the Mapinduzi Cup against archrivals Simba SC in Zanzibar citing health issues.
Khalfan has been working with African Lyon before he was approached and finally appointed by
Timu ya Wananchi who have been in good condition since the 2020/21 season began. Yanga are unbeaten after playing 18 games and have started preparations for the second round of the league already.
The Tanzanian tactician will work under Burundian coach Cedric Kaze who was appointed to take charge of the team when Zlatko Krmpotic resigned just after 38 days at the helm.
Yanga coach Kaze has now confirmed the striker has recovered from the injury and will join the rest of the players when they resume training.
“Yacouba [Songne] is now fit and ready to train with the rest of the squad members,” Kaze said as quoted by
“We are now hoping he will return to training because he is one of the strikers I will bank on to win matches [in the league], we are anticipating a lot of success from the team and it is good to have all the players fit and available.”
Before picking the injury, Songne had managed to score four goals for the Jangwani giants and was the team’s king of assists, as he had managed to set up four of the 29 goals scored so far in this campaign.
“He stated that the doctor advised him to avoid an assignment that would force him to use a loud voice and even at the Mapinduzi Cup he spoke with a low voice.
“His request to leave was granted and you even know players at times get injured and they return and surely we believe even Mwambusi will return someday.”
Reports have linked Yanga with a move to approach and probably appoint African Lyon FC’s coach Nizar Khalfan in place of Mwambusi.
The Tanzanian arrived at Yanga before the 2019/20 season before the appointment of Luc Eymael who later left the club unceremoniously in July 2020.
