A post on a popular Facebook entertainment page July 28 shows two different versions of the iconic 1st Cavalry Division patch that âFirst Teamâ soldiers wear on their uniforms.
The photo, posted to the âU.S. Army W.T.F! momentsâ Facebook page, shows one patch with a curved top and the other with a flat top. An additional photo shows an email from an unnamed command sergeant major letting everyone know that the patch with the curved top is the only one authorized for wear on the uniform.
The post was accompanied by a statement saying, âShow me in one picture, where Ft. Hood fixed all of their problems. This is the new patch on the left. The CSM likes it curved, instead of flat. Are we really getting this petty 1st Cavalry Division?â
Fort Hood is welcoming new leadership for III Corps and the 1st Cavalry Division, two of the Armyâs top units.

First Cavalry Divisionâs 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team will be holding an assumption of command on Friday in Poland.
Col. Jon W. Meredith will take command from Col. Ryan M. Hanson, who was placed as the brigadeâs interim commander after the previous commander was relieved of his duties.
Col. Michael Schoenfeldt, the former commander, was relieved of duties April 8 because of a loss of trust and confidence in his ability to command, Fort Hood officials said in a news release.
Schoenfeldt had been under investigation after allegations of toxic leadership and violating coronavirus quarantines.
Nicknamed âIronhorse,â 1st Brigade is one of Fort Hoodâs biggest units, with about 3,700 troops. The brigade deployed in November to Europe for Operation Atlantic Resolve, and is still there. The deployment was scheduled to be for nine months.
