Elections 2021 Update: Joachim Henry Wins Castries South East

With a total of 3980 votes, Joachim Henry has defeated the incumbent Guy Jospeph by a total of 437 votes after the final box in the Castries South East race was tallied.
Henry had to overcome a plethora of obstacles during his campaign to loosen the grip Joseph had held on the constituency.
Joachim Henry served as Senator and Leader of Opposition Business in the Saint Lucia Senate from 2016 – 2020. He also represented the Senate overseas on regional issues, as well as the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) on matters relating to housing, planning and of a social nature.

That seems to be the question facing police and the virtual complainant, in a matter that occurred on 24 April at the Forestierre Seventh Day Adventist Church between political hopeful Joachim Henry of the Saint Lucia Labour Party and Guy Joseph of the ruling United Workers Party.
Currently contesting the Castries South East constituency in the upcoming general elections, both men met face to face at the Church where Henry confronted Joseph.

Henry and his wife Claudia, this past Wednesday, were expected to be formally charged for allegedly disturbing the service that was in progress when they entered the Church, however, this did not happen as they did not make an appearance at the Major Crimes Unit as expected.

PRESIDENT of the Saint Lucia Mission of Seventh Day Adventists, Roger Stephen has spoken out on the disruption of service at the Forestierre, SDA Church that took place 11 days ago. Saying that the Missionregrets what happened on the morning of April 24, Stephen said that the Church sympathizes with JoachimHenry, who disrupted the service by calling on Guy Joseph to desist from maligning himself and his family. Henry and Joseph are political rivals vying for the same parliamentary seat, Castries South East, in the upcoming general elections.

Henry, whose only son died suddenly days before the incident, was said to be in a state of grief when he confronted Joseph who was on the pulpit at the time. Torrential rains on Thursday, April 29, 2021, caused a major landslide on the Barre de L’Isle Ridge. The disaster forced a single carriageway for vehicles traversing the main linkage for traffic to and from the west coast.

With the rain expected to continue for the next 3-4 days based on the weather report and the road being unstable and undermined, the Minister, noted that the thinking from officials is to close the road to vehicular traffic.
