When it comes to the movies, 2021 will resemble 2020 – at least for a while.
Theaters were closed for much of last year as a COVID-19 safety measure, which sent Hollywood into chaos yet also put an emphasis on audiences getting new films via streaming services and video-on-demand digital platforms. And with 2021 beginning just as 2020 ended, with surges in coronavirus cases and stay-at-home orders again bringing productions to a standstill, it doesn t seem that moviegoing will return to normal anytime soon.
So that s the bad news. The good news, however, is there s plenty of stuff coming to keep you entertained, from Oscar-ready films to star-filled projects. Netflix, Hulu and Apple TV+ continue to generate original fare, plus Warner Bros. is making its entire 2021 slate – including huge franchise films like Godzilla vs. Kong, Dune and The Matrix 4 – available the same day in theaters and on HBO Max (for 31 days).

One Night In Miami. Directed by Regina King. Starring Ben-Adir Kingsley, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, Leslie Odom Jr, Lance Reddick and Michel Imperioli. Streaming on Amazon Prime from December 25th. Running time: 111 mins. Star rating:
The night is February 25th 1964 and Cassius Clay (Goree) has just become the World Heavyweight champion by pounding Sonny Liston into submission.
Sam Cooke (Odom) and legendary NFL running back Jim Brown (Hodge) are there to celebrate with him. For this one night in Miami the world is their oyster. Unfortunately, the victory party is being thrown by teetotal Nation of Islam bore Malcolm X (Kingsley) who chucks a great big wet blanket on the euphoria by having these four prominent black men discuss their position in the struggle. The only indulgence is vanilla ice cream.
