The firm is known for creating award-winning commercial, residential, and hospitality projects that span the past thirty years. We are working domestically and internationally from the Bay Area to New York and the Wine Country to the Middle East. The projects range from residences to restaurants, casinos to mixed use developments, and hotels to showrooms. Our goal is to make the buildings and spaces we create relevant, attractive, functional, and timeless.

Cass Calder Smith designed this sustainable,1900-square-foot beach house in Stinson Beach, CA, as a second home for a three-generation San Francisco family. The design follows a rigorous sustainability program, achieving the Marin Planning Department s highest rating for resource efficiency. Photovoltaic panels generate all the home s electricity, sending surplus energy back to the grid. All the home s systems hotwater, HVAC, and radiant heating are integrated, electric-based, and powered by the PV panels on the roof. With the exception of the propane tank, the home is net-zero in terms of its energy consumption.

An iconic fixture of New York’s SoHo neighborhood, Vesuvio Bakery has made its return to its original Manhattan address after an 11-year hiatus thanks to restaurateur Adam Block. Evoking a classic appeal and a contemporary Italian flair, the design by New York-based architect and designer Cass Calder Smith reflects the evolution of the brand while also celebrating its century-old legacy.
“It’s like a cherished historic antique,” Calder Smith says. “Because of that, we carefully restored the façade so it was as it had always been but fresh. Inside, we replaced everything, and as before, the focus is bread.”
