NOIDA: A cop posted at the Noida police commissionerate allegedly duped at least six other fellow policemen promising to get a government accommodation allotted to them. Boasting of his “connections with senior officers” Kapil Baliyan, a constable with the investigation cell of the Noida police, had allegedly taken Rs 8,000-Rs 10,000 from each victim on the pretext of getting them a government accommodation in the reserve police lines or Luksar jail compound or police quarters.
Baliyan is currently on the run. A recommendation of a “major punishment” has been made against the accused, who can even face dismissal from service if found guilty after an inquiry, officials said. In fact, reports of some new-joinee constables being charged money for government accommodation in police lines or the Luksar jail compound reached officers first about seven months ago.
