Wisconsin company acquires former Russell Athletics Wetumpka complex Updated Dec 15, 2020; A 102 acre industrial building formerly home to Russell Athletic has been acquired by a Wisconsin-based commercial real estate firm. Phoenix Investors of Milwaukee has acquired an 891,000 square foot Class A industrial facility on Elmore Road in Wetumpka for an undisclosed amount. Russell Brands, which closed the Wetumpka plant in 2013, manufactured sports equipment and clothing. It was acquired by Fruit of the Loom in 2006. The building was constructed in the mid-90s and has 100 slots for trailer storage and adjacent land ready for expansion. Phoenix Investors founder Frank P. Crivello said the company plans to make improvements to the building and enhance its energy efficiency. Cary Cox, executive director of Elmore County Economic Development Authority, said the “immense property fits a certain niche as most companies cannot utilize a building of this size.”
