Arts education saved my life, and with proper funding it could help save others

Too many children have fallen through the cracks of the education system, and I was almost one of them. My safety net was the arts program that existed in Montgomery Public Schools (MPS). Music quite literally saved my life.
Not every child is lucky enough to have that kind of safety net. There are still amazing arts programs at every level in MPS, but due to chronic underfunding, many traditional schools have to do without.
Arts programs, in combination with recess and physical education, are investments in our children s quality of life, mental and physical health, and academic success. Every child in MPS can now benefit from improved connection, mood, and concentration through creative expression.
