A 10-year-old from Sebastian County took first place in the Arkansas State Spelling Bee on Saturday, triumphing after a grueling head-to-head bout with the runner-up that ended in an unconventional final heat.
The Trojans knocked off the host, 57-34 thanks to wins by fall by Devon Luing at 126 lbs, Brock Jones at 132 lbs, Trevor Nickel at 138 lbs, and Isaac Mann at 182 lbs. Pleasantville also had three wins by forfeit over BGM.
Pleasantville defeated Colfax-Mingo in a rout, 54-22. The Trojans got five wins by forfeit and three by fall. Their wins by fall were Carter Metcalf at 126 lbs, Kitt Lundy at 138 lbs, and Silas Koenig at 145 lbs.
Pleasantville’s next tournament will be Saturday when they travel to PCM High School for the Mustang Invitational. The action starts at 10:00 AM.
