Thunderstorms are moving into the Carson City region, prompting an alert from the National Weather Service in Reno. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City. Firefighters have also responded to reports of lightning strikes seen in areas south and east of Carson City.
Water main flushing began Monday and will continue through April 30, 2024. The Carson City Water Division will be starting up and testing wells in anticipation of increased water demand.
Summer is holding on for dear life, and sending a miniature heat wave our way for this long weekend. For those of you not in Black Rock City, the Carson City region offers plenty of recreation and entertainment.
UPDATE 1:03 p.m.: As of 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon the fire is still burning but it is being managed by ground crews. Large flames can still be seen. A helicopter returned to the scene at 1:07 p.m.
