For the last three years, Brayden Clark and Cooper Bolton have found themselves competing against each other in various conference meets throughout the track seasons. Each have had successful careers in the pole vault, with Clark, the Carson City-Crystal senior, being the more accomplished to this point, already with two All-State medals under his belt.
With 171 students, Northport Public Schools has fewer kids in kindergarten through 12th grade than Okemos High School has in its marching band alone.
Mackinaw City has 187 students; Alba, 174; Stanton Township, 138.
All are tiny. All are poor as judged by the percentage of students receiving federal free lunch assistance.
And all scored better in 4th grade math than larger, richer school districts across Michigan.
Stuart Gould is going to get his wish in one of his final track events at Tri County. The Vikings’ standout senior sprinter wanted to bring teammates with him to the MHSAA state track finals before the season began. He had big dreams to bring more than one person wearing Tri County running gear to Forest Hills Eastern’s Hawk Stadium for the Division 2 finals.

Carson City-Crystal will be seeking to replace three of its varsity head coaches for next season after recent resignations. Longtime girls basketball coach Tim Stout submitted his resignation following the Eagles’ season, in which Stout led the Eagles to a 17-5 overall record, going 15-2 in the Mid State Activities Conference. Stout led the girls basketball team for the last seven seasons and eclipsed 100 career victories earlier this season.
