Overturned 18-Wheeler Slows Down I-10 East In Acadia Parish
According to Rayne police chief Carroll Stelly, the crash happened around 4 a.m. Sunday.
Stelly says the 18-wheeler flipped and landed in the median. According to Stelly, the truck was carrying automotive parts. Right now, crews are offloading the cargo by hand. Stelly says the big rig once that process in completed, recovery crews will take the truck away from the scene.
According to a witness, traffic is backed up towards Crowley. Stelly confirmed that traffic is backed up for several miles, but he said it is moving. Still, drivers are urged to take a detour if they are planning to travel to Lafayette or other points east of Rayne.

A 41-year-old man is wanted in connection with a Saturday afternoon shooting in Rayne that injured a 17-year-old.
Police Chief Carroll Stelly says that officers reponded to multiple reports of gunshots in the 500 block of 6th Street around 4:30 pm on February 27.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a 17-year-old male had been shot once in the abdomen.
The victim was transported to Ochsner Acadia General Hospital where he was stabilized before being transferred to the Trauma Unit of Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.

A Crowley woman is wanted following a hit and run crash investigation in Rayne.
Police say they were called on February 20 to investigate a vehicle crash involving a motorized bicycle on Hwy 90 near 7th Street.
Officers say they learned the bicycle was traveling West on Hwy 90 when it was struck from the rear by a vehicle driven by 46-year-old Marie Ozone of Crowley.
The bicyclist, identified as 56-year-old Thomas Blake Touchet, sustained moderate injuries during the crash.
Police say that Ozone fled the scene before officers arrived.
Four shootings Friday in Rayne believed to be linked to 2019 homicide

Rayne Police responded on Friday to multiple shooting incidents believed to be connected to a 2019 homicide.
Police say the four shooting incidents took place within the span of an hour and thirty minutes.
Officers responded to the first shooting at 8:20pm near 7th Street on Friday, February 19. Minutes later at 8:27 pm officers were called to the intersection of Hoffpauir Street and Haley Alley to investigate a shots fired call.
They say that an hour and 30 minutes later, at 9:50 pm, a 15-year-old was shot on W. Edwards Street.
